Five reasons why we love Cotton Tree, Sunshine Coast

When we were looking for a sea change and lots of sunshine in Winter, we fell in love with Cotton Tree, Maroochydore and really enjoy our lifestyle here. Now we aren’t exactly retired and it’s not all sunshine and unicorns, but for people we transport around the Coast, or up from Brisbane, it can be a great place to visit.

Cotton Tree Location

It really is quiet and tranquil almost all the time with an easygoing atmosphere. Cotton Tree is tucked out of the way yet right in the heart of the Sunshine Coast. Whether you’re seeking a relaxing escape or engaging activities, Cotton Tree offers a central location to offer both.

Cotton Tree Esplanade and Beach

The heart of Cotton Tree is the Esplanade, which has a long parkland and views over the river and north to Mount Coolum. There is a popular pathway along the Maroochy River that can take you into Maroochydore shopping precinct or all the way to the river mouth and then south along the beaches of Alex Headland to Mooloolaba. Take a leisurely stroll, enjoy a bike ride, or have a picnic in the waterfront parklands. Cotton Tree has a small beach that is kid friendly – salty but no waves, or there is also a large swimming centre in the parkland as well. It’s a perfect spot for sunbathing, swimming, or simply enjoying the coastal ambiance.
Brisbane Overview

Maroochy River

The Maroochy River provides a host of recreational activities. Hire a kayak, paddleboard, or boat and explore the river at your own pace. Fishing enthusiasts can relax, casting a line from the riverbanks or from a boat. Take in the serene surroundings, spot local birdlife, and enjoy the tranquillity that the river offers. There are also Jet Skis for hire further up the river or a Seaplane for the ultimate views over the Coast.

Sunshine Plaza

Just a short distance from Cotton Tree lies Sunshine Plaza – one of the largest shopping centres in Queensland. It would take all day to explore it with over 300 retail stores, including fashion boutiques, homeware shops, and entertainment options. Spend a day browsing, shop for souvenirs, catch a movie, or enjoy a meal at one of the many eateries available. And Maroochydore is a Commercial centre with hundreds of other businesses – everything we need.

Food and Drink

There are great cafes and restaurants not only along The Esplanade but up King Street and dotted around the area, including The Boat Shed right on the river bank under the trees. Cotton Tree is not only a short walk to Maroochydore, we are also within walking distance of Ocean Street which has a trendy set of restaurants as well.
Of course we are biassed, but grab your sunscreen, embrace the laid-back atmosphere, and come visit us in Cotton Tree – the heart of the Sunshine Coast 🙂
